About Susquehanna Glass

Built upon a tradition of pride in craftsmanship and service, Susquehanna Glass has long been in the business of making things personal. In 1910, Albert Roye installed a glass cutting machine in a small shed behind his house and opened the Susquehanna Glass Factory. Two years later, Albert’s brother, Walter, joined the business. The operation grew, eventually moving to its current location in Columbia, Pennsylvania, a stone’s throw from the original shed where it all began.

Glassware & More

While hand-cutting glassware was the driving force behind the early years of the company, the development of new methods to decorate glassware eventually emerged, allowing the company to expand. Sand etching, color screening, laser etching and rotary engraving are all decorating processes currently offered by Susquehanna Glass. The selection of media has simultaneously expanded to include acrylic, metal, leather, flatware, wood and more.

Meet Walt Rowen | Owner, CEO

Susquehanna Glass is a family-owned and operated business. Today, it flourishes under the leadership of third-generation owner Walt Rowen, the grandson of original partner, Walter Roye.

Walt initially joined the family business upon graduating from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1975. As current CEO, he’s primarily responsible for developing the long-term strategy of the company. However, he continues to work with some of the company’s largest accounts. With his years of experience in the glassware and tabletop industry, along with extensive work in product development and sourcing, he’s ushered the company into the 21st century.

In his spare time, Walt enjoys skiing, sailing, traveling, swimming, and riding his motorcycle. He and his wife, Kate, reside in a beautifully renovated townhouse in Lancaster, PA. They have three children and six grandchildren.
